Mountain State Fair announces clogging contest winners
FLETCHER - The N.C. Mountain State Fair announced winners from the Clogging Championship held last weekend at the WNC Agricultural Center. Winners were announced in team, duet and individual categories.
The Bailey Mountain Cloggers from Mars Hill University were big winners in the student team competitions garnering grand champion wins in the following categories: acapella “stomp,” country hoedown, four of more couples hoedown, line formations, props exhibition, running set hoedown, running set precision, smooth, show, southern app and traditional line. The team was also named Overall Team Grand Champion.
Wolfpack Cloggers from N.C. State University took grand champion honors in acapella team and small team. The Blue Ridge Mountain Cloggers from Salem, S.C., were named grand champion in the four or more couples precision category. Explosive Impact from Sevierville, Tenn., took home top honors in the line competition. In the exhibition category, Asheville Clogging Company of Arden walked away as grand champion.
In the duet competitions, Haleigh Williams and Sarah Campbell were named grand champion. Stephanie Howell and Joey McCannon won grand champion for short duo.
Grand champions also were named for individual performances. Crystal Crisp was named grand champion for traditional female, contemporary female, and flatfoot. Sarah Campbell won for choreographed solo; Joey McCannon for traditional male; Gary Giles for contemporary male; and Stephanie Howell for acapella solo.
