POLICY FOR ADVERTISING IN AGRICULTURAL REVIEW

Following are guidelines for advertising in the Agricultural Review, effective January 1, 2009. Adherence to these rules will ensure quick processing of ads. All ads that do not meet the following guidelines will be rejected.

General Rules:

  • Advertising is a service to North Carolina residents only. A North Carolina address and phone number are required for submitting ads.
  • There is no fee for advertising.
  • The editor or advertising manager reserves the right to accept or reject any ad and to edit ads to meet requirements or space limitations.
  • Priority will be given to ads that are strictly related to agriculture.
  • Advertisers must limit their ads to 30 words or less. This includes first and last name of advertiser, complete address and phone number with area code.
  • Ads must include first and last name (not farm name) and phone number. A mailing address may be substituted for a phone number in the ad, but advertisers must provide a phone number with their ad submission. Advertisers who wish to list a cell phone number in their ad must also provide a home phone number, even if the home number is not to appear in the ad.
  • Ads will be published in one issue only. Ads that are to be repeated must be submitted for each issue.
  • Only two ads per family per issue will be accepted. Family refers to all individuals sharing the same residence, mailing address or home telephone number. These ads must be under separate categories.
  • All "For Sale" and "For Rent" ads must have a price or price range.
  • The ad deadline is midnight on the first working day of the month prior to publication. For example, if you want your ad to be published in the September issue, we must receive it by midnight the first working day of August. For additional information, see the deadline calendar below.

Rules for Specific Categories:

  • Equipment for Sale: Priority will be given to equipment used in cultivating, harvesting or storing agricultural products.

  • Farmland: Real estate agents or brokers may not submit ads. The tract must be a minimum of three acres used for agriculture, e.g. cultivation, raising livestock, poultry or other farm commodities. Ads for land for hunting also will be accepted, as long as the tract is at least three acres.

  • Farm Supplies: Priority will be given to ads for items that are used in cultivating, harvesting or storing agricultural products. Ads for rough-hewn timber suitable for barn construction are accepted; ads for finished lumber products are not. Finished lumber includes, but is not limited to, planed wood, tongue-and-groove wood, remilled wood, and wood for home interiors or woodworking projects. Logs are not accepted. Lawnmowers are not accepted.

  • Horses and Supplies: All horses offered for sale or stud that are 6 months of age or older must have a negative Coggins test for equine infectious anemia. Proof of EIA testing must accompany the ad each time the ad is submitted. This information must include the date of the last test - within one year of the month the ad will be published - the accession number, test result, and the name and address of the lab that administered the test. Date of test will be printed with the ad, but will not count toward the 30-word limit. All ads submitted without complete or current Coggins test information will be rejected.

  • Small Animals: Rabbits are accepted. No dog ads will be accepted.

  • Poultry: Ads are restricted to meat and competition birds only. No domestic birds will be allowed. Examples of domestic birds include, but are not limited to, parrots, budgies, cockatiels, Macaws, parakeets and canaries. No wild turkeys will be allowed. It is illegal to sell or possess wild turkeys in North Carolina. Several species of game-raised birds require a dealer license from the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission. Call (919) 528-3374 or visit www.ncwildlife.org for more information.
