On the horizon
The quarterly meeting of the Sustainable Local Food Advisory Council will be held Sept. 22 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Martin Building at the State Fairgrounds in Raleigh. The meeting is open to the public.
The group is expected to make recommendations for its annual report, which will be sent to members of the legislature, Gov. Bev Perdue and Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler.
The Sustainable Local Foods Advisory Council's goal is to contribute to building a local food economy that helps create jobs, stimulate economic development, increase consumer access to fresh and nutritious foods, preserve open space, protect the natural environment and provide greater food security.
