State Fair concert, advance tickets go on sale Aug. 2

The 2010 N.C. State Fair concert lineup will feature a mix of country, contemporary Christian, rhythm and blues, rock and old-time string music on the Dorton Arena stage, Oct. 14-24.

Opening the 11-night series, country singer Danny Gokey will present songs from his debut album, My Best Days. Gokey will perform hits including the spirited single, “My Best Days Are Ahead of Me” and the soulful, “I Will Not Say Goodbye.”

The Grammy and Dove-award-winning Christian band, Casting Crowns, will perform hits such as “Lifesong” and “East to West,” Friday, Oct. 15.

Up-and-coming pop-rock band Honor Society will take the stage Saturday, Oct. 16. Named a breakout band to watch by Rolling Stone and a Buzzworthy Artist by MTV, the group will perform songs from its recently released album, Fashionably Late.

Carolina Chocolate Drops, an old-time string band from Durham County, whose music was featured on “The Great Debaters” movie soundtrack, will bring its unique sound to Dorton Arena on Sunday, Oct. 17.

Chris Young, the 2006 winner of Nashville Star, will perform such country hits as “Gettin’ You Home” and “The Man I Want to Be” on Tuesday, Oct. 19.

Energetic country band, Gloriana, will hit the stage on Wednesday, Oct. 20, performing the group’s hit songs “Wild At Heart” and “How Far Do You Wanna Go.”

R&B and funk legend Jeffrey Osborne will perform old-time favorites such as “On the Wings of Love” and “I Really Don’t Need No Light” on Thursday, Oct. 21.

Contemporary Christian star Chris Tomlin will perform on Friday, Oct. 22. Tomlin has penned hits, “How Great is Our God” and “Our God,” among dozens of others.

Due to contractual obligations, artists scheduled for Monday, Oct. 18; Saturday, Oct. 23; and Sunday, Oct. 24; will be announced at a later date. Tickets for these shows will go on sale Sept. 1.

All shows begin at 7:30 p.m. and doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Ticket prices range from $5 to $20 and can be purchased online only at www.ncstatefair.org beginning Aug. 2 at 10 a.m. Any concert tickets remaining after the start of the Fair can be purchased at the Dorton Arena Box Office.
