PEART - Piedmont Emergency Animal Response Team
- Plan, prepare, respond, and recover together
- What is PEART?
As farmers, you control one of our most important resources, our food supply. In North Carolina, agriculture is a billion dollar industry and you are the frontline defense and most important link in protecting your crops, livestock and livelihood against terrorist attacks. Across the nation, farmers and agribusiness had already stepped up biosecurity measures because of concerns about foreign animal diseases. The September 11, 2001 attacks only reinforced the need to remain diligent in our efforts to protect our national and world food supply. This website offers some security measures that can be implemented on the farm and in businesses. Please review these tips carefully and take appropriate actions in your own work environment.
The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services has established a Multi-Hazard Task Force to address concerns about terrorism and safety of agricultural resources. If you have additional questions or want more information, please contact the Emergency Programs Division at 919-807-4300.
