About US
Located on 210 acres of farmland in beautiful northeastern North Carolina, Oak Down Stables offers miles of trails through fields and woods, a qualified riding instructor, and a relaxed atmosphere as you enter the enchanting world of horses. We have Quarter, Arabian, and Tennessee Walker horses.

We offer guided trail riding for the public to ages 5 and up by appointment. Riders must: weigh under 240; wear helmets (provided), long pants, and shoes with at least 1-inch heel and be prepared to sign waivers. Trail riders must arrive 30 minutes in advance for orientation.

Oak Down is proud to have retired former professional throroughbred racing jockey Ellen Rice as the instructor for Western Pleasure riding lessons. Facilities include a lighted riding ring and a lodge with bath and kitchen.

Directions
From Ahoskie: Take Hwy 13 S toward Windsor. Turn left onto Hwy 42. Travel through Powellsville and continue about 8 miles until you reach Nowell Farm Road. Turn right. Oak Down is the first buildings on the right. From Edenton: Take Hwy 17 S to Midway, make a right at stoplight of intersection onto Hwy 45. Travel to Colerain, make a left at stoplight on Hwy 42 W toward Ahoskie. Travel approximately 3 miles, turn left on Nowell Farm Road. Oak Down is the first buildings on right. From Windsor: Take Hwy 17 N to Midway. At stoplight in Midway, turn left onto Hwy 45 N to Colerain. Turn left at stoplight on Hwy 42 W toward Ahoskie. Travel approximately 3 miles out, turn left on Nowell Farm Road. First buildings on right are Oak Down. From Winton: Take Hwy 45 S to Colerain. Turn right at stoplight onto Hwy 42, travel approximately 3 miles out, turn left onto Nowell Farm Road. First buildings on right are Oak Down Stables.
