Uwharrie Farm

In nature we trust.

About US
Uwharrie Farm is a two generation family farm nestled in the rolling hills of the Piedmont Region of North Carolina. The Uwharrie Mountains overlook rolling pastures on our 120 acre farm. Committed to an environmentally friendly agriculture and safe food supply, our family has operated the farm since 1987.

We take food quality and stewardship of the land seriously. Preservation of farmland, food quality, air quality and our environment are critical to all of us. With this in mind we are happy to share information that may help others preserve the environment and promote sustainable agriculture.

We have chosen to raise pastured Jersey and Jersey cross cattle because - "Taste panels have consistently rated meat from Jersey cattle as being more acceptable due to its greater tenderness, juiciness, flavor and overall acceptability. Jersey cross cattle have monounsaturated fat concentrations that are significantly higher than other breeds. The interest in monounsaturated fat level arises from the fact that these fatty acids, once seen as cholesterol "neutral", are now considered cholesterol "lowering" and are preferable to high levels of polyunsaturated fats." Facts reported in - Beef Production from Jersey Cattle, Massey University, 2001. We have chosen heritage pork for their superior eating quality (Available Fall of 2017). Heritage breeds are prized for juiciness, flavor and tenderness. The meat is pink-hued and heavily marbled.
