DeerHaven Hills Farm is a family operated Chemical Free Blueberry and Muscadine Grape farm near Tryon in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Before moving to North Carolina with our family in 1998, my parents owned a small, organic, wholesale tropical fruit farm (papaya, mango, pineapple, lichee, & macadamia trees) and Podocarpus nursery Davie, Florida. We purchased our property in Polk County in 1996, moved here in 1998. We began planting produce that could be grown organically, was more native to this area and was more weather, disease and pest resistant--namely blueberries and muscadine grapes. It was our plan, not only to make our property sustainable (financially as well as food-wise) for our family, but to help keep family farms alive in our larger, county and state communities.
We were Certified Organic since 2009
until this year, but because of the
sagging economy we did not renew our
certification. However we are still
totally committed to organic practices.
We drilled a new irrigation well in 2009,
installed a drip irrigation system for
the 700 rabbit-eye blueberry bushes in
2010 and redesigned the drip system for
the muscadines this year. We are having a
good blueberry season this summer and our
one acre of Summit and Triumph Muscadine
vines are lush, and will be full of fruit
and ready to pick in September and
Blueberries, Muscadine Grapes
