The Fresh Life

We are a small family farm of 20 acres in South Raleigh that has been in the family for 3 generations. The original farm was over 300 acres and the main crop was tobacco. We believe in eating fresh local food and wanted to provide fresh food to others. We also believe in contributing to the community and supporting local businesses.
Our main vision for our farm is specialty items. We do not use any pesticides and all of our animals are free ranged in pastures. We started outdoor mushroom production in 2006 with shiitake mushrooms. We currently sell the mushrooms at three farmer’s markets, Western Wake in Cary, Mid-Town in Raleigh and Durham. We also sell to restaurants throughout the piedmont. In 2008, with suggestions from our chiefs, we began experimenting with 3 other strains of mushrooms - Maitake or Hen of the Woods, Lion’s Mane and Pearl Oyster. These strains should be producing in 2009 or 2010. We will be adding Morels in 2009 for 2010 or 2011 production. We also grow specialty fruits such as Pawpaws, Figs and Persimmons. We should see some production on the figs in the fall of 2009. Our plans for 2010 are to add goat meat (chevron) and poultry eggs.
