Taste and feel the rhythms of nature
Genesis Farm is a micro-eco farm located about five miles west of Chapel Hill. We sell fresh, seasonal produce and cut flowers during the growing season. We also sell fresh eggs from our sassy hens.
Due to the increase in urban life and reliance on technology, we believe that many children suffer from a "nature deficit". To counter this deficit, we have created The FARM SCHOOL, which opens May-October. It is a field-trip destination designed for school grades K-5th, but we accomodate all age groups (even adults!) who want to learn about small farm life, how to grow plants for food and care for animals. Learn about cows, chickens, meet our miniature donkey and horse; plant a seed, turn the compost pile, "milk" Bessie. Bring your lunch and enjoy free play in the pasture. We invite you to come out and get your knees dirty! Also, we offer a nook on the farm, focused around an old potting shed, that we call Our Pasture Place. It is available for small weddings and parties (outdoor venue only, noon to dusk) and includes a picnic area under old maple trees, volleyball and large bandstand.
New this year: The Barnhouse at Genesis Farm. We offer our guest quarters as a farm stay where you can come and meet the barnyard critters, enjoy a breakfast of fresh eggs from our hens and sit on the deck and marvel at amazing sunsets. The cottage is spacious and will sleep five: it has a bedroom with queen-sized bed; futon and small couch/bed in the large living room. All new and very comfortable. Come and relax on the farm!
Fresh, seasonal produce, herbs, flowers, fruits. FARM SCHOOL for K-5th grade Summer-Fall. PASTURE PLACE rental space for parties, small weddings (outdoors only); THE BARNHOUSE B&B.
From Hwy 54 W, out of Carrboro, take a right on Bethel Hickory Grove Church Rd to the top of the hill. Turn left on Jo Mac Rd. After sharp curve, take first right (gravel rd) on to Genesis Rd. Go straight, .4 mile, and Barnhouse is second house on the right, after the road narrows.
Please call or email for hours and product availability.
On the farm direct sales; truck stand during peak season.
We have just opened our guest cottage, The Barnhouse, which invites folks to a "farm stay". We don't cook your breakfast but we stock it with locally- produced food from our neighbors, and fresh eggs from our own sassy hens. It's quiet, comfortable and very relaxing. Most of our guests describe it as a "retreat". We agree!
