May 17 2013 USDA Market News Broiler/Fryer: Daily National Broiler Market at-a-Glance Prices for whole broiler/fryer are firm to higher in the East and Midwest, steady to firm in the West. Offerings are in good balance and clearing well for current trade needs. Retail and food service demand covers the full range, but is mostly moderate to good entering the weekend. Floor stocks are balance to short. Market activity for whole birds is moderate to active. In the parts structure, movement is moderate to good while some dealers continue to have seasonal problems obtaining trucks for deliveries. Prices are trending steady to higher for wings, mostly firm, firm to higher for breast items and steady to firm for dark meat and tenders. Offering of breast cuts are in good balance to tight; wings and most dark meat items are light to moderate. Tenders are sufficient. Market activity for parts is moderate to active. In production areas, live supplies are moderate. Weights are mixed, but noted as desirable.
