Geographically, there are 4.4 million forested acres in the mountains; 5.8 million acres in the Piedmont; and 9.1 million acres in the coastal plain. Regarding commercial timberland, the mountains have 3.9 million commercial acres, the Piedmont 5.8 million, and the coastal plain 9 million.
