Mountain State Fair names winners in Junior Wool Breed Sheep Show

FLETCHER – Patrick Smith of Buncombe County won Grand Champion Homegrown and Kendra Orr of Henderson County won Grand Champion Ewe at Saturday’s Junior Wool Breed Sheep Show at the NC Mountain State Fair. The show’s Grand Champion Fleece went to Patrick Smith of Buncombe County and Grand Champion Pair went to Andrew Michael of Wake County.

Reserve Grand Champion Ewe was awarded to Kailey Russell of Polk County. The Wacky Trio Champion was Sarah Sirkin of Buncombe County. A wacky trio consists of two lambs of the same color and one lamb of the opposite color.

Premier Exhibitors were also named for exhibiting classes. Trophy winners for this award were:

Border Leicester – Kailey Russell
Fine Wool, Natural Colored – Joshua Wesson
Long Wool – Joshua Wesson
Cotswald – Patrick Smith
Natural Colored Wool Growers – Marc Tayloy
Romney – Fallon Newell
Shetland – Andrew Michael
Fine Wool, White – Augusta Patrick
