Western NC youths win District Junior Dairy Cattle Show

FLETCHER – Young exhibitors from western North Carolina competed in classes divided by breed Friday night at the NC Mountain State Fair. Competition was open to any child under the age of 19 and living in western North Carolina. Champions from each class are as follows:

• Ayshire: Junior Champion – Savannah Green, Haywood County; Junior Reserve Champion – Sarah Smart, Haywood County
• Brown Swiss: Junior Champion – Jessica Kinghorn, Haywood County; Junior Reserve Champion – Zachary Quattlebaum, Cherokee County; Grand Champion – Jessica Kinghorn, Haywood County; Reserve Grand Champion – Zachary Quattlebaum, Cherokee County
• Guernsey: Junior Champion – Sheila Mills, Haywood County; Junior Reserve Champion – Connor Luckey-Smith, Haywood County; Senior Champion – Samuel Cochran, Haywood County; Grand Champion – Sheila Mills, Haywood County; Reserve Grand Champion – Connor Luckey-Smith, Haywood County
• Holstein: Junior Champion – Maisey Wells, Buncombe County; Junior Reserve Champion – Maisey Wells, Buncombe County; Senior Champion – Samuel Cochran, Haywood County; Senior Reserve Champion – Louie Cochran, Buncombe County; Grand Champion – Maisey Wells, Buncombe County; Reserve Grand Champion – Samuel Cochran, Haywood County
• Jersey: Junior Champion – Savannah Green, Haywood County; Junior Reserve Champion – Maisey Wells, Buncombe County; Senior Champion – Dakota Guthrie, Buncombe County; Senior Reserve Champion – Dakota Guthrie, Buncombe County; Grand Champion – Dakota Guthrie, Buncombe County; Reserve Grand Champion – Dakota Guthrie, Buncombe County County

The show was sponsored by the WNC Dairy Commission and the NC Mountain State Fair. Winners from each class received ribbons, trophies, and premiums.
