FLETCHER – If you have been by the Agricultural Center in Fletcher recently, you have probably noticed the long line of colorful bucket seats suspended over the grounds, stretching from one end to the other. The eye-catching attraction is the chairlift, a cable operated ride similar to chairlifts seen at snow skiing resorts. The ride is making its return to the N.C. Mountain State Fair’s carnival this year after its first appearance earlier in the decade.

“The chairlift was such a popular attraction the first time it was here and we’re excited to bring it back this year”, commented Matt Buchanan, Fair Manager. “It’s a great addition to the carnival and the fair. It’s a great way for visitors to get a view of the fair from above, as well as move from one end of the grounds to the other”.

The chairlift returns along with carnival operator, Drew Expositions. Drew, based out of Georgia, has been the carnival operator in years past at the Mountain State Fair and brings back popular attractions such as the Seattle Wheel, which appeared at the 1962 Worlds Fair, and new ones such as the Enterprise, a ride which spins riders round and round, starting from a horizontal position and ending in a vertical position.  Families with young children can look forward to plenty of kid-friendly rides and games as well.

The N.C. Mountain State Fair takes place at the WNC Agricultural Center this year from September 11 – 20. For more information, visit www.mountainfair.org or call (828) 687-1414.
