It’s an old fashioned battle of wheels at Mountain Fair

Fletcher – At this year’s NC Mountain State Fair, antique tractors will be doing some serious “heavy lifting” at the tractor pull competition on Saturday, September 12. Tractors of all kinds will battle it out in the Open Corral at noon to see who can haul the heaviest load for the rights to a trophy, a title, and maybe more importantly, bragging rights.

Tractors will compete in weight classes ranging from 3000 pounds to over 10,000 pounds and will be loaded down with as much as five tons. Onlookers can expect to see well known names like Allis-Chalmers, Oliver, Ford, International, and John Deere battle it out for the right to say who makes the best tractor.

For those who like their tractors a little bit smaller and a whole lot louder, lawn and garden tractors will pull on the following Saturday, September 19, also in the Open Corral. Both events are free to all fairgoers with paid admission.

The NC Mountain State Fair will be held this year September 11th through the 20th at the WNC Agricultural Center in Fletcher. To learn more about the 2009 NC Mountain State Fair, visit www.mountainfair.org or call 828-687-1414.
