2009 Promotional Events

Join the WNC Farmers Market throughout the year for special events and promotions. The schedule changes monthly depending on the availability of produce, herbs or other commodities commonly sold on the market, so keep checking the calendar for events the whole family can enjoy!.

With the convenience of being open year-round, 7 days a week, the WNC Farmers Market offers a selection of farm-fresh produce at the lowest prices in Western N.C. Our popular retail buildings, provide a selection of non-perishables, fruits, vegetables, crafts and more, are open daily from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. from April through October. Winter hours for the retail area are from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. starting in November and continuing through March.

Times and dates of promotional events are subject to change. In addition, new events are added during the year...check back regularly for the latest information!

Master Gardener Plant Clinic
Saturday, April 12th & 26th, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.

The NCSU Master Gardeners Program offers plant clinics to assist the public in diagnosing and solving gardening questions. All clinics are free, and the public is encouraged to bring samples from problem plants or insects that need to be diagnosed and/or identified. The Master Gardener Program provides research-based information on home horticulture. Trained Volunteers are prepared to help with advice on growing plants, insect identification and managing disease problems.

N. C. Watermelon Queen
Watermelon Day

Friday, July 17 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Sweet, juicy melons…what could be better on a hot
summer day! Get a taste of fresh, locally grown
watermelons at the Watermelon Day and enjoy a little family fun.

Hosted by the WNC Farmers Market, the N.C. Watermelon Association, and the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Watermelon Day has activities to bring out the kid in all of us.

There will be free watermelon slices for all and drawings for free watermelons and prizes. To round out the day's events, there will be a watermelon seed-spitting contest and watermelon-eating contest for kids. And, if coaxed a little, the reigning N. C. Watermelon Queen will show how far she can spit a watermelon seed!
